Elena Hernandez-Merino, DVM, MPhil

Dr. Elena Hernandez-Merino obtained her degree in Veterinary Medicine from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 2005. She then went on to do research in genetics in ophthalmology at the Instituto de Oftalmologia Conde de Valenciana in Mexico City. She was then accepted to a Master’s degree in Medical Genetics at the University of Cambridge in the
UK. Once she finished her Master’s degree, she went to Iowa State University for a postdoctoral degree, and then went on to do research and clinical practice at Iowa State University and the University of Iowa. In 2013, she went to New York for an ophthalmology internship at Long Island Veterinary Specialists. During this time, she also started working in emergency medicine and has been working in clinical practice since then. She moved to Los Angeles in 2019 and has been working in clinical practice ever since.
